Swept away by the waves of grief, marooned by my thoughts, my untethered mind rides the peaks and troughs of emotions. Resisting the vortex of despair, guided by stars empty of light, my listless heart beats with anguish upon the sea of sorrow.
Born from your ocean tide, nurtured upon your fertile shore, my essence is colored by the complexity and contradictions expressed through your crafting fingers. Your love, empathy, care, protection, neglect, indifference, selfishness, all, are sown within me.
At times we battled upon the plains of parental overstep, an impetuous youth, confronting mother-knows-best. Fire raged in my heart, but you understood, in truce, victory is found. Reunion never found scorn in your eyes, nor condemnation upon your face.
Withdrawing from your undermining love, I wandered the Judean desert, posing questions to myself, as I reminisced of days battling windmills upon the foothills of insecurity. Slowly, I understood, life’s answers illuminate from within, like pearls of wisdom, born from an irritating grain of truth.
Your journey’s end blared forth from Gabriel’s trumpet, its valves rhythmically dancing upon the rays of your setting sun. Scowling, you fled to the seas, only to be trapped by the Sirens’ call, as they slowly lured you to your demise, shipwrecking you upon the rocky shores.
As your last, darkening, flicker of light shines upon me, a lifetime of memories, are refracted through the prism of my tears. Most, will be forgotten, ground beneath the millstone of time, others, to be cherished, for they will be laced upon my necklace of remembrance.
Gazing upon the heavens, I hear your melodic voice echoing between the stars, the twang of bitterness, purged by the waters of Eden. Smiling, you stand in reverence before Empyrean’s gate, enveloped by the three circles of light, you contemplate the rose petals, your eternal place of rest.
In loving memory of my mother
