Honored with Adornment

by Costandinos

Poem | Theme: Who am I

Flitting about, like a tethered child trying to escape parental constraints,
I surrender to random urges, lunging about in a directionless frenzy. Tiring,
I gradually slide into a slumbering respite as the breeze subsides and I
calmly settle into a rhythmic breadth and comforting sleep.

Awake at dawn, listening to the rooster’s first light serenade, the sun
nestles me in its soothing rays of invigoration. My days are full, from
dawn to dusk, working continuously to generously give others the
essence of life, while they, unappreciatively, reciprocate with refuse.

Yet, the albatross of resentment shall never be my burden, for I know
the meaning of my efforts and seek no praise or accolades. Meritorious
is my stock, with ancestors praised for their service, honored with
adornment, by kings, queens, lovers and, most notably, poets.

So freely, I give my wares to all, breathing life into people’s efforts, letting
them choose their paths in life and allowing them to reap their subsequent
benefits or misfortunes. For I am an equal opportunity provider, existing
symbiotically, knowing my place in life is secure, I rest, like a leaf.
