Faded Ember

by Costandinos

Poems | Theme: A Year of Sorrow

You sat perched upon my table, a towering beacon of light, unwavering in your mission, you burned strong and bright. Mysteries hidden by the darkness you exposed before my eyes, the maze of life was revealed to me with wit and pure resolve.

With a flicker and a gracious glimmer, you shined upon my soul, a friend for life in support of me you helped me see the truth. Fits and starts may be part of life, but persevere you must, for real happiness is found within and shared through acts of love.

You illuminated many paths in life and left the choice to me, the merits to weigh, the prices to pay, you helped me see it all. Callowness that bound my eyes, melted before your light, as you brightened life’s darkness and calmed my fears of doubt.

I journey down my chosen path in pursuit of a fulfilling life, with strength and wisdom imbued by you, my efforts shall not fail. Never will I reminisce in darkness, for you consumed your essence, defying the winds of ignorance, to shine upon the venues of my life.

The wick is a faded ember, the tallow burned and gone, the candelabrum has cooled, but your eternal warmth wanes not. Whisps of smoke slither across the room, my eyes tearing at their touch, bowing my head to these final threads of remembrance, I go on, weaving the tapestry of my life.

In loving memory of my aunt Poppy
